Dear friends

All your support would help Maki to finish her first Marathon!

Maki Kimura is running her first marathon in the London Marathon on 22 April.  Very kindly, she has decided to make it an opportunity to benefit our Centre.  Please sponsor Maki as generously as you can.  You can email us saying how much you pledge.  Thank you very much.

Maki says:

“Hi, I’m Maki. I’m running my first marathon at the Flora London Marathon on 22nd April, and I would like to raise some money for the charity Women in Dialogue to support the work of the Crossroads Women’s Centre.

"I’ve run on and off over past five years, but have been running more regularly over a year now since I joined the Mornington Chasers Running Club, a social and friendly running club based in Camden, north London. Meeting new people at the club and running together eased stresses that I then had and helped me not to become too depressed. Also, as many friends of mine who now live elsewhere are also joggers, I visited them last year and had a wonderful time jogging or running races together.

“I’ve never thought of running a marathon in my life, but after completing a couple of half marathons last year, I thought ‘OK I can give it a go’, and thought this is a good opportunity to raise money for activities that I believe in.

I studied gender studies, and consider that fighting against discriminations and inequalities based on gender, race and sexuality is my life commitment. I found out about the Crossroads Women’s Centre through an event I attended and learned about different groups’ work there. As I’d very much like to support the activities of these groups, I decided to raise money for the Centre which helps make their work possible. After the marathon, I will also be volunteering with some of the groups in the Centre.

I’ll be happy if you can sponsor me for my marathon. You can do it in three different ways:

1.     42.195 km – sponsor me on the basis of my finishing the race.

2.     Pay as Maki runs – sponsor me per km I run in the marathon and maybe an extra bonus for my successful completion?

3.     Anything goes – sponsor me on the basis that I’ll give it a try and have been committed to training so far.

Please send your e-mail saying how you would like to sponsor me, and for how much, to: centre@crossroadswomen.net (attention: Solveig). Training has been going quite well, but your sponsorship would be an extra and final encouragement for me to complete the race!”
