What we do
WinVisible brings together asylum-seeking, refugee and UK-born women, with visible as well as invisible disabilities such as polio, Sickle Cell Anaemia and cancer. Since 1984, our grassroots group has been an independent voice for women of all ages and situations. Most of our work relies on unwaged volunteers. We provide self-help information and advocacy, including on homecare and access to services (against rationing and disability discrimination in care assessments, against homecare charges), welfare benefits, employment, transport, and against violence, sexism, racism and other discrimination. We often win – see news on our webpage by subject. We have many years’ experience working with disabled people who are seeking asylum or refugees, some of which was supported by the Big Lottery Fund. We are active on many other issues, such as death and disability from industrial pollution.
