Centro Cultural Aymará, Comunicación y Desarrollo Pacha Aru

(Pacha Aru Centre of Aymara Culture, Communication and Development), formed in 1982, is a grassroots organisation based in the mountainous region of Southern Peru. Its members are Indigenous Aymará and Quechua women from farming communities. The group aims to improve living conditions, provide training in practical skills, encourage women’s knowledge and defense of our own rights and rescue Indigenous customs and traditions. It has enabled women to be more aware of the value of our work and helped to get our own equipment and tools. It provides Andean women with a voice of our own, helps overcome isolation and rescue our culture and traditions, for example, through Pacha Aru's radio programme produced by Aymará and Quechua women and broadcast in their mother tongues. Women of different ages can describe their experiences, report instances of abuse and mistreatment and express their demands.
