Lesbian women with and without disabilities JOIN THE GLOBAL WOMEN'S STRIKE – 8 MARCH 2002 Let’s stop the world and change it! WinVisible (women with visible and invisible disabilities) and Wages Due Lesbians are helping to co-ordinate the Global Women's Strike and invite anyone who is interested to join us. Some of the reasons lesbian women with disabilities are striking: against the extra work we have to do of dealing with day to day discrimination, including 24hr care which can be more like 24hr surveillance; dealing with families/carers patronising us and refusing to accept that we can have a disability and be lesbian; fighting for economic independence and independent living, accessible, affordable transport, etc... Last year some women with disabilities put a broom outside their house (following women in Argentina) to show they were on strike. |
