from the Pink Paper UK, News section, " ... Meanwhile lesbians have been leading the campaign against the war by picketing outside Downing Street and joining a 20,000-strong march through London last Saturday 13 October. The Wages Due Lesbians group has highlighted the plight of civilians caught in the bombardment, particularly women and children. A spokeswoman for the organisation said: "We condemn the racist assumption that the lives of Afghan people are worth less than those killed by the 11 September attacks. This bombing has been justified on the grounds that it will remove the Taliban regime responsible for the murder and repression of women and the LGBT [lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender] people among others. How does bombing people help them fight repression?" The group believes that gay service men and women should refuse to take part in the war, and wants the money being spent on the bombardment to be used for "caring not killing". |
